NOTHING’S SHOCKING

“Nothing’s Shocking” is the anthem that Trevor O’Neill of Possible Oceans needed in these dark times. Written in the fog of pandemic isolation, it is a song about tapping into what really matters to find the strength to keep pushing. For Trevor, that meant finding a way to keep making music, a great source of joy throughout his life, in spite of the dire state of the world. It’s only fitting that the title is an homage to Jane’s Addiction, the first rock band he ever saw live at just eight years old. He got to tag along with his mom after a babysitter cancelled last minute, and on the way home, Trevor announced that he was going to be a rock star when he grew up.

The solo project of LA singer/guitarist Trevor O’Neill, Possible Oceans released its first EP, Phase Change, independently in 2018, receiving an enthusiastic welcome from press outlets around the world and remaining on the NACC 200 radio charts for five weeks. His most recent single, “Blood in the Water,” was released in January 2021 and recently made its radio debut on BBC1 Radio’s Future Artists with Jack Saunders.

After a slew of shows in support of the Phase Change EP, Trevor took a break from performing to focus on writing new material in late 2019. That break was extended indefinitely by the pandemic, leaving him with little else to do outside of experimenting in his home studio.Eventually, with a number of demos in hand, Trevor tapped producer Jules de Gasperis (Low Hum, James Supercave) to collaborate on a new batch of singles. As the pandemic dragged on, the final stages of recording became an exercise in extreme social distancing with de Gasperis deciding to shut down his Highland Park studio and return to his native France. There he undertook the final mixing sessions with Trevor sending notes and overdubs across the Atlantic from his home studio in LA.

Drawing comparisons to Foals, The Horrors, Queens of the Stone Age, and Royal Blood, this new series of singles is at once introspective and far-reaching. With an undertow of swirling synths and driving guitars, these songs paint a picture of life as it is today, and of what may be. A live performance video of “Nothing’s Shocking” shot recently at LA’s Palmquist Studios will be released shortly after the single. More singles will follow in the months to come, with a full length scheduled for release in late 2021.

PRESS

“Try 80’s pop mixed with the arena rock of Royal Blood and Queens of the Stone Age with 00’s indie thrown in for good measure. The amalgamation of influence comes together in a beautifully modern package, one that I can’t imagine will stay underground for long.”

-Mind Noise Network

“Possible Oceans offer up a refreshing sound that…borrows from some of the darker sides of 80s pop, while still forging its own place within modern indie-rock.”

-Xune Mag

“Possible Oceans are an L.A. indie outfit trading in the brooding, erudite rock of bands like The National…”

-Buzzbands LA

“…songs that will fill your head with images during a late night drive in your car.”

-American Pancake
